A brief history…Larry and Tom were ministers of music at local churches and had sung together for two years with the "Jubilaires" in the early eighties and several years with "One Accord" in the nineties. They had talked about forming a male quartet but they had no idea who the other two guys would be. They prayed about it and expected God to answer their prayers. They just did not know how or when.
In 1996 Tom’s brother, James, (minister of music at his church) was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and was told that he may lose his voice as a result of the surgery. God blessed him with a full recovery and he told Tom that he would like to sing in a quartet if the opportunity arose. Tom told James what he and Larry had discussed and he joined them in seeking God’s will. Now they needed a tenor singer. One that loved the Lord and had similar tastes and desires to sing in a quartet.
A few weeks later the Lord placed Eddie Long on their hearts. Eddie (minister of music at his church, too) had been singing with his family group, The Long Brothers, since his childhood. They were no longer singing together due to hectic work schedules and health problems. They contacted Eddie and encouraged him to pray about the possibility of forming a new group. Two weeks later they decided to meet and discuss their goals and the Lord’s direction for their lives. They met to talk, pray, and determine if there was harmony- musically as well as spiritually. After a couple of hours they were encouraged and excited about what was happening. They decided to wait a week to see how God was leading. The excitement grew. Praise God! This was the beginning of a new excited quartet.
The group wanted a biblical name that would be a witness of their faith and make a statement about their trust in God. Out of that came “The Father’s Four.” (four guys singing for the Father to whom they belong)
God has truly blessed these guys by allowing them to sing and fellowship together as well as minister through their music. They sing and proclaim God’s love in a variety of venues. Their prayer is that you are blessed by their ministry and that God is honored in all that they do.
